Governor Markell and First Lady Carla Markell set for Kent County Fund for the Arts LOVE LETTERS Benefit, 9/27

The Kent County Fund for the Arts is pleased to announce the performance of the Pulitzer nominated play, A.R. Gurney’s LOVE LETTERS, starring Governor and Mrs. Jack Markell. This event will raise funds to support the Kent County Fund for the Arts. Love Letters will be performed at the Schwartz Center for the Arts in historic downtown Dover on Saturday, September 27, 2014.

The Pulitzer Prize nominated LOVE LETTERS by A.R. Gurney tells the story of love and friendship between two childhood friends who together, traverse the challenges of life. “While the story is different from Jack’s and mine” says Mrs. Markell, “we have known each other since Kindergarten and have grown up and grown together through the years.” LOVE LETTERS simple but elegant staging lends an atmosphere of intimacy to the entire play. Over the span of 25 years the play has been performed by Robert Wagner, Jill St John, Stockard Channing, Kathleen Turner, Christopher Walken and more. “It is with great pride that Governor Jack Markell and First Lady Carla Markell are now added to this list of renowned talent,” states Rosemary Twilley, Founder of the Kent County Fund for the Arts, “We are thrilled that Governor and First Lady Markell have offered their time and talents to support this worthy cause.”

The Markells, who have always been strong supporters of the arts, have gone on record as saying “When we speak up in support of the arts and participate in cultural events, we attest to the value of the arts in education and their contribution to our children, our communities and our nation’s cultural legacy. The arts are an important part of our economic development efforts. Businesses follow the talent and talent follows quality of life.”

Kent County Fund for the Arts is an endowment that awards grants each year to select Kent County arts organizations. The Fund accepts tax-deductible donations from individuals and businesses who share its mission. Kent County is fortunate to have a wide range of performing and presenting artists in our midst, including painters, sculptors, musicians, actors, photographers and composers who make our region a better place to live. Recipients of the Fund are regional non-profit art groups that enhance our quality of life, educate and broaden our perspectives and help improve community relations and economic well-being in Kent County.

The Governor and First Lady Markell are excited to play a part in the growth of the Kent County Fund for the Arts and encourage and invite all to see the show and support this worthy cause. Sponsorship opportunities are available and include a private reception with the Governor and Mrs. Markell sponsored by Parkowski, Guerke and Swayze at the home of Mike and Linda Parkowski.

Committee members for this exciting project are Kathy Andrus, Regina Brown, Rocky Bushweller, Taube Carpenter, Shelly Cecchett, Mary Davis, Mary Field, Candice Fifer, Carolyn Fredericks, Stephany Halpern, Todd Lightcap, Nisha Lodhavia, Tonda Parks, Donna Stone and Rosemary Twilley.
