WILMINGTON – The Home Builders Association of Delaware (HBA/DE) awarded Kevin Kelly, 2014 Chairman of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and President of Leon N. Weiner & Associates, their recipient of the HBA/DE Builder of the Year during their Annual Leadership & Legacy Ball on December 13th. The night included installment of their 2015 Board of Directors, as well as the presentation of other prestigious awards.
Kevin Whittaker, of Whittaker Builders, returns for a second term as the President of HBA/DE for 2015. Whittaker was sworn in along with the 2015 Board of Directors. Whittaker’s 2015 goals are to protect and promote industry objectives through public and private partnerships to support growth and job creation within the housing industry.
Kevin Kelly was awarded HBA/DE’s most prestigious award, the Leon N. Weiner Builder of the Year. Presenter and immediate past president, Fred Fortunato, of Benchmark Builders, cited Kelly’s unfailing commitment to the industry, demonstrated leadership qualities in promoting and supporting the industry, and participation at both the local and national level.
Despite his busy schedule as 2014 Chairman of the Board, of NAHB, Kelly remains active within his home state. He helps to support and grow the industry within the Delmarva area, and as a whole overall.
Debra Young, HBA/DE Associate Vice President, awarded Jeff Haggerty, of Grubb Lumber, the Butch Alfieri Associate of the Year. This is the highest award available for Associate members within HBA/DE, and is in recognition of his long standing and extensive support to the Association. Jeff serves as the Treasurer on the Board of Directors for HBA/DE, as well as chairs the bi-annual golf tournaments for HBA/DE. This year the Louis J. Capano Sr. Memorial Golf Tournament had an overwhelming turn-out, greatly exceeding last year’s participation. The overwhelming success of the tournament was only one of Haggerty’s many accomplishments that qualified him for the award.
HBA/DE President, Kevin Whittaker, presented the President’s Distinguished Service Award to Damien Golden, of iKANDE Advertising. Damien serves on HBA/DE’s Sales & Marketing Council, and provides creative insight to the organization, producing both the Annual Regal Award & Annual Legacy Ball programs. Her many contributions and dedication to the organization are what qualified her for the award.
The event’s success was capped by the overwhelming support of HBA/DE members for the One Warm Coat campaign. This year, HBA/DE teamed up with One Warm Coat, collecting coats to be donated to those in need this winter. By the end of the night, two containers of coats were overflowing with donations.
