The event was held at Bowlerama in New Castle, following the HBA/DE Monthly Board Meeting. Members & Board Members were able to mingle and bowl as a group. This setup is a new initiative developed this year to help members get a more interactive experience with their HBA/DE membership.
The night started with beer and pizza as the bowlers listened to a presentation about the 2015 International Builders Show by Jim McCulley, Watershed Eco, & Debra Young. For those of you who missed the presentation, you can view it here.
After the presentation, the bowling began. Scores varied from team to team, but generally everyone performed well. Robert Mass, Atrix Sustainable Improvements, out-shined the group, peaking at with a score of 183. He took home the award for Highest Individual Associate Score. Brian Rickards of Benchmark Builders won the counterpart award, Highest Individual Builder Score, with a score of 118.

A couple of weeks ago we told you about all there is to do and see at the annual International Builders Show (IBS), hosted by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). This week we’d like to highlight some of our members that had represented the Home Builders Association of Delaware (HBA/DE) by attending and participating in the numerous meetings, committees and events at IBS.
The NAHB Board of Directors meeting is included in the IBS festivities. Representing Delaware this year was Kevin Kelly of Leon Weiner and Associates, who concluded his year as 2014 Chair of the Board – a big deal for little Delaware. In addition, many of the HBA/DE members serve as NAHB Directors. Attending this year was Steve Bomberger, Bob Thornton, Jim McCulley, Mark Grahne, Bob Thornton, Joe Capano, Kevin Whittaker, Jeff Haggerty, Dave Curtis, and Debra Young, several of these members also serve on various NAHB committees too numerous to mention.
Bob Thornton served on the Board of the Home Innovations Research Labs, which is closely aligned with NAHB. Member Joe Gordon attended as an Accredited Green Verifier, conducting several free plan review sessions for builders attending their workshops. Shown above, member Mick Kenney was present to conduct and teach a class involved in the 55+ housing market. Debra Young taught classes related to Universal Design and Remodeling, and conducted a tour of the products on the exhibit floor, attended by 20-25 international business leaders.
At this past Monday’s HBA/DE Bowling Tournament, Jim McCulley, Debra Young, and Joe Gordon gave a brief presentation on their time spent out at IBS 2015, showcasing their favorite products. You can view the presentation here.
HBA/DE encourages its members to attend IBS as it provides them an opportunity to experience and branch out into the industry on the national level. IBS 2016 is scheduled for January 19th-21st, be sure not to miss out on all the fun.
This week the Home Builders Association of Delaware (HBA/DE) Board of Directors unanimously bestowed upon Jeff Haggerty the distinction of Life Director.
Becoming an HBA/DE Life Director is no quick and easy task. It requires at least 10 years of service as a member of our Board of Directors and a demonstrated exemplary volunteer experience to HBA/DE.
Nominated by our Associate Vice President, Debra Young, Jeff met the 10 year threshold, and has served on our Executive Committee for a number of years guiding our financial affairs as our Treasurer. In addition, he has served as our Golf Chairman for a number of years steering our Spring and Fall golf/Crab Feasts. Jeff has also served on our annual Budget Committee for years.
Jeff has also become involved as an alternate Delaware State Associate Director on our National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).
Professionally, Jeff joins our Association representing Grubb Lumber Company.
Congratulations to Jeff Haggerty for this prestigious recognition!
The Delaware Early Childhood Center recognized the Home Builders Association of Delaware (HBA/DE) earlier this week for their winter coat contribution back in December 2014. The coats were collected from members of HBA/DE at the 2014 Annual Leadership & Legacy Ball as a means to provide continued support to the community in which it serves. You can view the entire letter of thanks here.
