Members of the Home Builders Association of Delaware (HBA/DE) made their way to Las Vegas a couple weeks ago for the 2015 International Builders Show (IBS). Countless of them were there firsthand for the HBA/DE reception in honor of our membership and Kevin Kelly, the 2014 National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Chair. In the coming weeks, we’ll also fill you in on the activities and participation of our members at IBS. Whether they were teaching a class, attending National Committee Meetings, or conducting tours, members of HBA/DE played a vital role in this year’s IBS.
Here’s just a small sample of what attendees can get out of IBS, an event so mammoth that only a few cities within the United States are capable of accommodating it:
This year, IBS brought more than 55,000 attendees, which filled 32 different hotels in Las Vegas. IBS showcased 1,200 exhibitors filling 478,000 square feet at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Called the Design and Construction Week, NAHB teamed with the Kitchen and Bath Industry to co-locate their shows together at the Las Vegas Convention Center, which allowed attendees to see all the latest of every conceivable type of building product and kitchen and bath products.
In addition to the exhibitors, IBS also includes several significant events:
One of which was, the National Association of Home Builders Annual Board of Directors Meeting. This was Delaware’s Kevin Kelly’s final rein as 2014 Chair of NAHB. In honor of his achievements and accomplishments, and In order to reflect his legacy with an image of unity and understanding, HBA/DE presented him with a granite sculpture crafted by Delaware artist, Rick Rothrock. Ultimately, the sculpture will be permanently displayed at NAHB Headquarters in Washington, DC. The sculpture was hauled, cross-country, to Las Vegas by our Executive Committee member: Jeff Haggerty, of Grubb Lumber, an adventure which may very well merit its very own blog post!
HBA/DE Associate Member, Jim McCulley, was recognized as a National Associate of the Year Nominee at the NAHB Associates Awards Breakfast. While Jim did not take home the national title, we in Delaware believe they got it wrong; in our eyes, Jim is the true National Associate of the Year!
Delaware’s Mid-Atlantic 55+ Housing Council was also active at IBS. They sponsored a well-attended reception for IBS attendees involved in the 55+ Housing Markets, a segment of the industry which is growing stronger all the time!
The Spike Party is the final event of the week. While attendees can pay to get in, nearly a thousand “spikes” attended with free admission and drinks to the awesome sounds of ZZ Top, and while their beards may have grayed, their guitar playing is sharper than ever!
Keep an eye out for more IBS news from HBA/DE in the weeks to come, including an exclusive look at some of HBA/DE’s Associate Members favorite products and services from the show. Only viewable at the upcoming 2015 HBA/DE Bowling Tournament, don’t miss out, sign up today!
