DOVER, DE – It was a warm, beautiful evening on Thursday, September 17, 2015 as over 200 women and 60+ volunteers joined forces at Noble’s Pond to “Fight Like Girls” and raise funds for the Greater Delaware Valley Chapter, National MS Society. The “All the Jazz” New Orleans themed event inspired women to don their jazziest attire as they shopped, danced and watched two fabulous fashion shows from Dress Barn and Knights Fine Jewelry. Over the past four years, this event hosted at Noble’s Pond has raised over $63,000 for both research for a cure and to provide programs and supportive services to over 15,000 local people living with MS.

Guests were greeted with a complimentary homemade ice cream from Vitale’s with a little kick, then went on to Drop the Puck for prizes and everyone was a winner! Attendees enjoyed a large variety of  heavy hors d’oeurves and decadent desserts from Maple Dale Country Club, An Affair to Remember, Frederica Pizza and Past House, Pizza Delight by Giacomo, Cajun Queens, Doc Magrogan’s, Captain’s Catch Seafood & BBQ and Abbott’s Grill.  Boisset Family Estates donated an assortment of wines for the evening with all proceeds going to the cause. A Martini Bar with Cosmos and Chocolate Martinis were a big hit with the ladies.

Colleen Ostafy, Lifestyle Director at Noble’s Pond stated:  “What a fantastic time we had on Thursday evening while raising money for the MS Society and having a blast with all our girlfriends.  This year’s vendors really gave the women an opportunity to shop – for everything from jewelry to scarves to handmade pottery.” And shop they did, as the vendors were all pleased with the results from the evening.  A second shopping opportunity was the silent auction with over 45 fantastic items to choose from. Senator Carper donated an American flag that flew over the Capital, Red Frog Events donated Fire Fly Festival tickets and Knights Jewelry provided a beautiful pair of earrings, just to name a few. In addition, many of the Noble’s Pond residents donated craft items, handmade quilts and throws, artwork and more. “We would like to thank all the sponsors of auction items, as well as, the mystery boxes. Area businesses were instrumental in making this a success. The residents are so very generous and we could not host this event without all their volunteer efforts. Everyone involved is so excited about the amount of money that we raised.” stated Ostafy.

Girls Night Out carries a lot of significance in the MS Community. Nationally, twice as many women than men are diagnosed with the disease; locally, 73% of those diagnosed with MS are women. This is a great opportunity for women to fight against Multiple Sclerosis. Proceeds from the event will go directly to MS research as well as local programs and services for the 1550 Delawareans living with the disease.

About Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple Sclerosis, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system, interrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Every hour in the United States, someone is newly diagnosed with the disease. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 400,000 people in the U.S. and over 2.1 million worldwide.

About the National Multiple Sclerosis Society

MS stops people from moving. The National MS Society exists to make sure it doesn’t. We help each person address the challenges of living with MS. In 2012 alone, through our national office and 50-state network of chapters, we devoted $164 million to programs and services that improved the lives of more than one million people. To move us closer to a world free of MS, the Society also invested $40 million to support more than 325 new and ongoing research projects around the world. We are people who want to do something about MS now.  Join the movement at nationalMSsociety.org. In Delaware, call (302) 655-5610. Or visit www.MSdelaware.org.
