HBADE was able to present March 17, 2016, at the Delaware House Small Business Caucus, our legislative initiative designed to encourage new business growth in Delaware.
Appearing before a meeting attended by numerous small business leaders and a bi-partisan group of State Representatives, our 2016 President Kevin Whittaker of Whittaker Brothers briefed the group on the proposed State legislation which is designed to attract new business plans (office, manufacturing, industrial projects) that create either 75,00 square feet of office space or 60 permanent new jobs. The Bill would direct local government in that County to ensure an expedited process is in place that these development plans could be approved within a short, 9 month timeframe.
Although we primarily represent home building, this process excluded residential or commercial projects so as to encourage large numbers of job growth for the State – which in turn will spur those newly created job holders to buy new homes, buy furniture, groceries, food, etc., and benefit all of the local merchants. The proposed bill was well received by the Caucus, as it was also received well from State and County agencies we had already spoken with.
We are in the final stages of polishing the bill before introduction and we hope to see it become law by the end of the legislative season this June 30th.
