HBA/DE Recognizes Excellence in the Home Building Industry at the 24th Annual Regal Awards

Home Builders Association of Delaware celebrated their 24th year of recognizing excellence in the home building and related industry.  This year’s Regal Awards was held at the Delaware Center for Contemporary Art, in Wilmington, which lent the ceremony a unique flare. Attendees could enjoy the contemporary art exhibits while they eagerly awaited the announcement of winners.

Guy Waites, of Fernmoor Homes, having an animated discussion with attendees about the hanging art display.

Soon guests were called into the secured room where the gleaming crystal awards were displayed that touted winners of categories such as, Best Clubhouse Design, Community with the Best Amenity Value, Best Image Campaign, Community of the year in Kent County, Sussex County, and New Castle County.

Mark Succarotte of New Penn Financial, and Sunny Schmidt of HBA/DE start off the award announcements.

The first award given out was for Best Clubhouse Design, which went to Benchmark Builders for their Milltown Village Clubhouse. Later, Sales and Marketing Council (SMC) member Jocelyn Succarotte discussed some important things that the SMC does, along with HBA/DE through out the years.

Home Builders Association of Delaware has been around since 1947 protecting and promoting the home building industry- so we are going to take some time to let you know what your support has helped accomplish.

  • For the past 2 years the SMC has hosted low cost to free educational courses.
  • In conjunction with the Associate council, HBADE has built handicap ramps for 2 people in need- one being a veteran
  • For the second year in a row – we are pairing up with Habitat for Humanity for a Framing Frenzy in June to celebrate home ownership month
  • Recently HBADE assisted the General Assembly to increase winter clothing donations for the Food Bank of Delaware

Through out the ceremony our wonderful sponsors were recognized  starting with our Platinum Sponsors, Dry Zone and Schell Bothers. Next were our Gold sponsor, Insight Homes, Carl M. Freeman Companies, and Benchmark Builders. Then our Bronze and Silver Sponsors were recognized Middletown Kitchen and Bath, Horty & Horty, PA, OneCall Services, Inc., Leon N. Weiner & Associates, Bay to Beach Builders, New Penn Financial, McKee Builders, and Bath Kitchen & Tile.

The most popular sponsorship of the evening was the Signature Drink Sponsor, which was made possible by K. Hovnanian. Those who wanted the special Mojito drink, had to ask for the “K. Hov.”.

Finally, the ceremony ended with 2015 Community of the Year, which went to Champions Club by McKee Builders. After the final announcement of winners, guests enjoyed more mingling and celebratory cocktails to finish off a splendid event, but before they left, they stopped and picked up their copy of the Regal Book. The Regal Book is made possible by iKande Advertising, which displays the endless hours of work, beautiful color, and shows off the excellence in the building industry and all of its supporters!

Attention Delaware Builders and Remodelers

Dispose of Your Drywall at No Charge!

Do you know that DSWA is now accepting your clean drywall waste at the DSWA landfill in Sussex County at no charge? This is a trial program intended to measure the interest in drywall recycling and increasing the amount of drywall kept out of the landfill.

This could save you hundreds or thousands of dollars. All you need to do is segregate the drywall either on top of your container or in a separate container and deliver it to a paved area at the landfill that accepts only clean drywall. The acceptance of drywall at no charge is likely to continue if there is enough demand.

This is good for the environment and good for your wallet. Please contact Jim McCulley at jim for additional information.

New Guide Helps Builders Navigate 2015 Residential Code

May 18, 2016-From NAHB

A new guide co-published by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the International Code Council (ICC) provides critical answers to the most frequently asked residential construction jobsite code questions. Available through BuilderBooks, NAHB’s publishing arm, the 2015 Home Builders’ Jobsite Codes: A Quick Guide to the 2015 International Residential Code, is a portable guide for home builders, contractors, inspectors, architects, engineers and other construction professionals.

The convenient field guide is a quick reference to the 2015 International Residential Code (IRC) and provides easy-to-read code requirements for every aspect of residential construction. The resource covers the impact of the 2015 code changes on things such as common walls separating townhouses, remodeling of an existing basement and more.

The 2015 Home Builders’ Jobsite Code includes more than 100 detailed illustrations and useful tables and discussion on other areas of the code, including:

  • foundations
  • fire safety
  • energy efficiency
  • mechanical systems
  • safe and healthy living environments

“This new guide to the 2015 International Residential Code is an excellent resource for building professionals to stay on top of the most recent code changes,” said NAHB Chairman Ed Brady, a home builder and developer from Bloomington, Ill. “Available both in a compact pocket guide, as well as in e-book, this easy-to-use reference guide is always one of our most top selling publications, as it is an invaluable asset on the job site.”

Written by Stephen A. Van Note, the guide features more than 100 illustrations, tables and figures to help the reader understand specific code requirements, as well as a glossary that provides definitions of construction-related terms. A certified building official and plans examiner, Van Note has more than 15 years of experience in code administration and enforcement and more than 20 years of experience in the construction field, including project planning and management for residential, commercial and industrial buildings.

The 2015 Home Builders’ Jobsite Codes is meant to be of practical use on the jobsite, not as a substitute for the complete codes.
